About this index
Aus Data Catalog is an independent, curated index of Australian open-data catalogues and public APIs. It is not affiliated with any government. Every entry is checked by a person before it is listed and re-checked by a probe afterwards.
Method
Catalogues start from the Dateno registry of Australian portals and are extended by hand. APIs are curated from official documentation. Each machine endpoint is probed for a 2xx response; the date and HTTP result are shown on every record. A source is live if the last probe succeeded within 30 days, stale if its last success is 31–90 days old or the latest probe failed once, down after two consecutive failures, and unverified if never probed.
Counts
“Datasets reachable” sums the package counts reported by each live hub. The federal hub harvests some state portals, so the figure double-counts those; treat it as an upper bound. Last compiled 23 Aug 2026.
Corrections
Every record has a “Report a change” link. Mail goes to a person.
